How Much Will It Cost?

It has to be the most difficult question to answer for someone walking into our store. It's kind of like answering how long is a piece of string. There are a lot of variables to consider. What kind of countertop material do you want to use? What type of wood species? etc. There are many other questions must be considered before you can arrive at a reasonable estimate. Lots of intimidating questions, but all you want to know is a ballpark figure to see if you can even consider buying a new kitchen.

There are many different kitchen layouts but here are four basic shapes of kitchens. Below are four floor plans and perspectives, showing each of these types of kitchens layouts. We have priced all four plans using a solid wood door style. Choose the floor plan closest to your own and the wood species you might want in your kitchen. If your floor plan is twice as large as the one shown, double the price. If it's half as large, cut the price in half. Remember, you're just working on getting a "ballpark" figure for the cabinets only.

KITCHEN LAYOUTS AND BALLPARK PRICING

Choices that will affect the price of your cabinetry include:

1. Overall Floor Plan   There are many ways to design any room.  Generally the greater number of cabinet components, the higher the cost.

IE:  One 48" wide cabinet is less expensive than two 24" wide cabinets.  But, the function may be increased by using two 24" wide cabinets with different interior features.

2.  Door style   A Solid wood door is more costly than a recessed plywood panel door.

3.  Construction Type.    With several different materials available for the interior of your cabinets.  Melamine construction is the least expensive. You pay more for Plywood construction.

4.  Accessories.   Interior functional features, such as decorative options, moldings and decorative hardware are all additional costs.

6.  Custom Cabinets.   You can alter the dimensions on selected cabinets to customize them for your needs.  This is added cost of standard sizes

.

Determining a Basic Estimate
~Do you have a basic floor plan. ( To roughly sketch your floor plan,  go to How to Measure. )

~Take or email info@PrestigeKitchens.com your floor plan to one of our showrooms, after a little study and asking some questions about your taste and your choices will be able to give you a "ballpark" estimate of how much you should be prepared to invest.

Establishing a Budget
~If you have set a firm budget yourself, discuss it with one of our trained designer. They will be able to tell you what you can realistically expect to purchase with the figure you have in mind. (Remember; the designer wants to create a kitchen that you can afford! He/she does NOT want to invest many hours of time creating a plan that you will not purchase because the price is too high. Being honest about your budget right up front helps clear the way for a good working relationship with your designer.)  Things to keep in mind:

~Remember: Make detailed plans for every part of the project. Nothing drives up costs faster than last minute changes!

Prioritizing
~Use your remodeling dollars for what is most important to you! If you have always wanted raised panel cherry cabinets, a ceramic tile floor or a large island, splurge on those items and spend less on other areas. Whatever your budget, remember that the real beauty of your new kitchen begins with your choice of cabinetry. Cabinets play the starring role in any kitchen decor. Ask one of our designers to show you the complete line of Traditional and European cabinetry. You'll be surprised at the wide range of styles, features and prices!

~Remember: Determine the fair market value of your home. Your kitchen remodel should probably not exceed 10% of that figure.

                        $Money Saving Tips$
If you find you must take steps to cut costs part way into your planning, don't despair! Here are some options to consider:

  • Reconsider appliance selections

  • Remove and/or install cabinets and countertops yourself

  • Do your own painting and wallpapering

  • Consider laminate countertops instead of solid surface

  • Ask your designer how the floor plan could be adjusted to cost less/delete features that are not priorities.

  • Consider a less expensive door style. A similar style may look great, but save $.

~Remember: Use your remodeling dollars for what's most important to you!
